Another day, another scandal rocking the Telugu Desam Party (TDP)! Despite Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's promises of a clean and efficient government, his own party MLAs seem to be mired in controversy at every turn. And this is the part most people miss: while Naidu publicly champions transparency, his party members' actions on the ground tell a very different story.
Naidu himself hasn’t shied away from addressing these issues, repeatedly highlighting complaints against TDP MLAs during cabinet and party meetings. Some MLAs have even been summoned to the party office for a stern reprimand. But here's where it gets controversial: despite these warnings, there appears to be little change in their behavior. The latest scandal involves Anantapur Urban MLA Daggubati Venkateswara Prasad, whose alleged abusive behavior towards a shop owner has sparked widespread outrage.
The incident centers around an optical shop in Sai Nagar, Anantapur, owned by Sharif and Sumaya. The couple, who purchased the shop in 2024 and mortgaged it to a bank, found themselves entangled in a property dispute after others allegedly executed double registrations on the same property. When they sought help from authorities, they claimed in media statements that the MLA’s brother-in-law, Ashok, was influencing officials. This accusation reportedly led to a heated phone call from the MLA to Sharif, during which highly abusive language was used. The audio of this conversation has since gone viral on social media, fueling public anger.
Is this the kind of leadership TDP voters signed up for? The Communist Party of India (CPI) certainly doesn’t think so. They staged a protest in Anantapur, marching from the Ambedkar statue to the Superintendent of Police’s office, demanding a thorough investigation into the MLA’s alleged illegal activities and intimidation tactics. CPI city secretary Sriramulu didn’t hold back, accusing the MLA of mafia-style operations, land grabbing, and even encroaching on properties belonging to women leaders within his own party. Despite lacking strong public recognition, Sriramulu claimed, the MLA secured his position solely due to voters’ trust in TDP and Naidu.
A formal complaint has been filed with SP Jagadeesh, and CPI leaders have warned of intensified protests if no action is taken. But the bigger question remains: Can Naidu’s promises of a clean administration survive the actions of his party members? What do you think? Is this an isolated incident, or a symptom of a deeper issue within TDP? Let us know in the comments!
