Mark Ratcliffe, at the age of 67, was tragically pulled from the waters off the East Yorkshire coast in Withernsea on Friday.
His lifeless body was discovered after he had submerged, and the unfortunate news of his passing was later confirmed. Paying heartfelt tribute, his family expressed their grief and admiration, stating: "A genuine selfless hero with a heart of gold, cruelly taken from us while trying to save others. On the same day, Humberside Police reported the recovery of a 45-year-old woman's body, adding to the tragic nature of this incident. The authorities initially received a distress call shortly after 3 PM regarding three individuals who had encountered difficulties in the water.

The search operation for a third missing person was suspended at 4 PM on Saturday by HM Coastguard, although police efforts in the vicinity will persist. Humberside Police assured the community that officers would maintain a heightened presence as they continue the search for the last individual who remains unaccounted for.
During this rescue operation, local coastguard teams, RNLI rescue units, the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, an air ambulance, Humberside Police, and Humberside Fire and Rescue worked tirelessly under extremely harsh conditions. The RNLI described the circumstances as "incredibly challenging," citing 3-meter waves, strong winds, and dangerously low temperatures.
"This is an immensely tragic event, and our thoughts are with all families, friends, and individuals affected by this situation," the RNLI stated solemnly.
