Get ready to tap your toes and feel the rhythm! The electrifying celebration of dance in musical theatre and film, "Gotta Dance!," is making a triumphant return to the Off-Broadway stage!
This spectacular production, a heartfelt homage to the choreographers who have left an indelible mark on both Broadway and Hollywood, is set to grace the boards of Stage 42 starting March 20. Mark your calendars for the official opening night on March 31!
Last year, "Gotta Dance!" captivated audiences with its limited run at the Theatre at St. Jean's, a production brought to life by the York Theatre Company. Now, it's back, promising an even richer experience. Co-directed by the visionary Nikki Feirt Atkins and the talented Randy Skinner, this show is more than just a performance; it's a journey through the golden age of musical theatre dance. It lovingly reconstructs iconic numbers from beloved classics like West Side Story, White Christmas, and Singin’ in the Rain, reminding us of the sheer magic that dance brings to storytelling.
But here's where it gets even more exciting: The upcoming run will feature brand-new music arrangements by Eugene Gwozdz, who will also be at the helm, leading a live orchestra! Imagine the energy and passion of live music amplifying these timeless dance pieces – it’s going to be an unforgettable experience.
The incredibly talented dance ensemble for this run includes Keely Beirne, Brandon Burks, Anthony Cannarella, Barton Cowperthwaite, Deanna Doyle, Sara Esty, Jessica Lee Goldyn, RJ Higton, Kate Louissaint, Libby Lloyd, Drew Minard, Cole Newburg, Melody Rose, Samantha Siegel, Ahmad Simmons, Landon Winslow, and Blake Zelesnikar. The casting, a crucial element in bringing these visions to life, is expertly handled by Mark Brandon and Matt MacDonald of ARC.
And this is the part most people miss: The creative minds behind the scenes are just as stellar. The production boasts scenic design by Noah Glaister, costume design by Marlene Olson Hamm, and lighting design by the legendary Ken Billington and Anthony Pearson. Adding another layer of visual splendor are the projection designs by Brian C. Staton and the sound design by Peter Brucker. Andrew Winans serves as associate director-choreographer, with Cathy Lubash Fogelman as associate choreographer, ensuring every step is meticulously crafted. Drew Neal will be overseeing the production as stage manager.
This grand production is brought to you by producer Riki Kane Larimer, with Joel Grossman as executive producer. Laura Janik of Catalyst Theatricals is managing the show as general manager.
This revival of "Gotta Dance!" isn't just about showcasing old routines; it's about preserving and celebrating the artistry of dance that has shaped musical theatre history.
